Fall classes are up and running! By now all Apprentices have their schedules for the semester. If you do not have your class schedule, contact the Apprenticeship office immediately.

A note from the Webmaster:

07-28-2007

We have a fresh batch of good looking, healthy new Apprentice's just finishing up their first 40 hour class this week. We kicked off the fall schedule at the Benicia Training Center with 3 Mixed Base classes going at once, I heard they all did really well on their testing. I was happy to see that most of the new crew have good attitudes and seem motivated to begin developing Lot's of new skills as their learning our great trade! That's exactly what we need if we want to not only survive but, flourish and gain strength as a union in this ever increasingly competitive field that we earn our livings in! I was sure to stress to all of them how important working on getting their welding certs as soon as possible is especially since they now jump up a pay scale when they obtain the required welding certification papers. If your an Apprentice, this means You also, get down to the Training Center Welding Shop and get busy!  Hours of shop operation are posted through out this site...

The work picture continues to look  great for the Iron Worker this year and a number of years to come. Some of the jobs coming up require certain certifications.  We have a number of certification classes available if you need them. Most up coming classes are posted in the hiring halls with times and dates or you can contact the Apprenticeship office for more information. Note that some classes have limited space so don't wait to long to get signed up. Sign up for classes at the Apprenticeship office in person or by phone.

Some of the classes available are listed below.

Keep in mind, as far as classes, certifications and extra knowledge that go beyond the requirements of the Apprenticeship Program are up to YOU to obtain.

Take/make the time to better yourself as Iron Workers.

Remember, the more you know, the further you will go!!

SOMETHING NEW,

Learn and make yourself more employable!!

Check out these new upgrade classes...

Math & Measurement Class (20 hour class)

Monday nights Beginning May 8th 5-7 PM.

If you can already add, that means 10 night's!

In this class you will learn how to use the builders level and transit. The class also covers some construction mathematics, measurement and layout.

Welding Theory Class

Monday's April 17th, 24th and May 1st 5-7 PM.

In this class we're going to cover welding terminology, welding symbols, welding test information, welding machine trouble shooting, intro to the D1.1 code book, some metallurgy and plenty of other useful info...don't miss it!!

A NOTE FROM WELDING INSTRUCTOR TERRY...

Keep in mind, anytime you add to your skills, it not only makes you a better hand, it also put's money in your pocket by making you more employable and less likely to be laid off. The welding shop at the 378 hall/training center is open to ALL Union Iron Workers every Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00 P.M. to 8 P.M. also the first Saturday of each month from 6:30 AM to 3:30 PM. NO CLASS on meeting nights. Come down and upgrade your skills, get certified. Contractors are always looking for welders especially wire welders...

If your willing to put in the time, I guarantee it will pay off! Welding and burning takes allot of practice to master. As apprentice's out on the job you may not have the opportunity to spend allot of time practicing. Here at the training center, with out being under the pressures of productivity you can hone your skills at your own pace. I or one of the other Instructors can spend the one on one time with you that you need and sometimes can't get out in the field...One of my motto's, if you want to get good, you have to spend the time under the hood!  See you at the shop!
